Scrap Batting Needed
The sewing group at Pinegrove Church in Bracebridge, who sew for Faith Orphans is in need of scrap batting pieces that are the size of a sanitary napkin or larger. 100% cotton is preferred but 80/20 would likely work as well. I just had an amazing and heartwarming visit to Beaver Creek to collect a donation cheque from the Minimum Security Inmates Group for $2100! These guys get paid $6 an hour so they gave up a lot of income to raise that much money!
Beaver Creek has supported Hospice Muskoka over several years by doing yard work and seasonal clean up, and more recently through sewing cushions, gowns and now knitting boot covers for us. They are open to learning and making anything we request for our residents. Today, I was asked to tour their sewing room and I saw some of the work they have produced. I heard some of the ideas of things they would love to make if they had the resources, afghans, quilts, stuffed animals. They rely on donations of fabric and yarn and often only get small pieces of lower quality goods, but I assure you the quality of their work deserves higher quality materials.
I would ask each of you to go through your yarn and fabric stash and drop off anything you would like to donate to the Beaver Creek sewing and knitting club…..it can go in my office and I will make sure they get it. If you would like to donate a gift card to Fabricland instead feel free to do that. I will collect items for them and make routine trips out to drop off supplies.
They are also looking for volunteers who can teach them to sew, knit, crotchet, cross stitch, embroidery and help them design patterns and improve techniques. They are incredibly passionate about learning to do quality work and they are very proud to donate back to Hospice Muskoka where they know we appreciate their efforts.
