| For our Block of the Month for our 2009-2010 Guild Year we will be continuing on with the traditional nine patch pattern block but with more complicated ones. In the following months, we will be making a sampler quilt featuring many variations of this pattern. Each month you will receive one or two patterns with instructions to make a 12" block. The final instructions will contain sashing and border measurements to complete the 70" x 84" quilt. In addition, if you wish to participate, each month you will make one more block using the theme as decided by the committee. All the blocks are to be returned at the following guild meeting and the names of the participants will be put into a draw and one lucky person will take home all the theme blocks! The theme for the September Block is "Dahlia". Make the block using two variations of the same or similar colour with the centre square either yellow or orange to resemble the centre of a flower. Here's a look at samples of the September block and of a dahlia block for the draw. Click on an image for a larger view. Twenty dahlia blocks were brought in for the draw. Amazing participation! The lucky winner of these blocks was Carol Hipson. The block for this month is shown below (plus a sneak peak at all of this year's blocks) and the theme for the draw blocks this month is "Fall Colours". Click on an image for a larger view. There was very good participation for this month's draw blocks with 15 turned in. These blocks were won by Barb Cronier. The theme for the December draw blocks is November Nights and the colours to be used are light blue, dark blue and white. Click on the image for a larger view. With our missed meeting in December because of the snow storm, we got two blocks in January. From December, the draw block is a night sky background with bright yellow and bold colours. For the January draw block we were given fabric to which we are to add from our stash with co-ordinates. The winner of the November Nights blocks was Marion McLaughlin. At our February meeting, draw blocks were submitted for both the December and January blocks. The December blocks with the night sky background were won by Wendy Wight and the January blocks using the given fabric were won by Cathy Maher. The draw blocks to be made for our March meeting are to use Valentine or red fabric with pink and white. Click on an image for a larger view.
