The Applique Group is a group of 10 quilters who have been meeting at each other’s homes twice a month since 2003. We are quite spread out geographically, some coming from Dorset, Sprucedale, Port Sydney, Bracebridge and Gravenhurst, so we often car-pool, and "do lunch". Our main focus is on hand applique; we work on our own projects. Some of us have tried Jacobean applique, using patterns from Patricia Campbell’s "The Best of Jacobean Applique"; some of us have made blocks from Aie Rossman’s "Affairs of the Heart". At some of the meetings, the hostess organizes a learning project, such as fabric painting with fabric dyes, or embroidery and beading demonstrations on pieced crazy quilt blocks. Though we don’t usually organize specific projects, in the Fall of 2006, one of our group brought in a large piece of a very ugly fabric; some of us took ½ Metre and took on the challenge of trying to use it in "something". We enjoy meeting in each others’ homes, and we get to see their work spaces, which range from the dining room table, to fully equipped lofts. No matter the space, we still enjoy the creative aspect of applique.
