2008 Quilt Show Detail

WOW  – what a great Quilt Show this has turned out to be!

Signs were made and put up all around town to direct motorists to the quilt show which was held at the Bracebridge Fairgrounds on June 20 & 21, 2008.

Set-up day was on Thursday, June 19 and many members and several conscripted spouses were there to help.  We started with a very large empty building …….

with this being the result some 8 hours later.

Both days were very busy, even running out of the 500 tickets we had printed up.  It was amazing to see the huge parking lot full and line-ups at the door, all bringing smiles to the happy ticket sellers.

The greeters were busy handing out the programmes, ballots and gloves.

This is a photo of just SOME of the team that brought this Show together.  Sorry we couldn’t get you all in at the same time, you were all so busy.

Back: Chairperson: Marta McIntyre, Wilma Johnson, Sandi Carnell, Barbara Coburn, Eleaner Anderson, Sandra Hartill
Front: Sylvia Bouchard and Shirley Anne Sturgess (President)
Missing: Marianne Meeuwisse (Past President), Heather Stanford, Carrol Reid, Linda Speller, Paula Elliott, Marsha Smart, Wendy Beverley.

We were very fortunate to have the Canada/China Quilt on loan from Bethune House in Gravenhurst as our feature display.  This quilt was a joint project of some members of our guild and others in China.  To read more about this quilt, CLICK HERE.

The show had a display of 107 large quilts.

There were a total of 88 small quilts and wall hangings.

And 9 pieces of wearables.

The Miniatures Group had a separate display area to show off 52 pieces of their mini-gems.

“Chatty Batts” and the Applique Group also had separate displays.

Joanne Kourtz and her helpers manned the Postcard display.  Joanne originated this challenge for members to make postcard sized creations with all proceeds being donated to the Chrysalis Transitional Housing Facility in Huntsville.

The Merchant Mall was enjoyed by both visitors and guild memebers.  We were fortunate to have the following merchants participate in our quilt show.  Pfaff Sewing Machines, Muskoka Quilting Co., Quilter’s Mis Bee Haven, Stone Cottage Crafts, Thimbles and Things, Gone Quilting, Homestead Stitches and Steve Matchett’s Scissor Sharpening.

The snack bar selections were enjoyed by many.  This was catered by the UCW of Bracebridge United Church with a great selection of fresh sandwiches, homemade muffins, squares and butter tarts.  Even fresh fruit was available.

The Boutique was a tremendous success also, thanks to many, many members who made and donated over 600 items to the Guild.

On Day Two, it was necessary to completely change the back wall due to great sales on Day One.  Having a selection of items from 25 cents to $40. gave the shoppers a good selection.

At 4:30 pm on Day Two, the committee took a tally of the “People’s Choice” ballots and Award Rosettes were given out for each of the Divisions.

AND THEN …….. it was time to close-down and the crew went to work again, undoing all they had done two days before . One hour later all the creative endeavours were packed up and returned to their rightful owners.

Thanks to the following photographers who contributed pictures of our quilt show so that we could share them with everyone: Wendy Beverley (official Guild photographer), Shirley Neil, Joanne Kourtz, Carrol Reid, Dianne Gronfors, Judy Kobe and Betty Laxon.
